VIV Asia week of events in Bangkok, Thailand

Trouw Nutrition Cluster Asia was active in several events during the week of VIV Asia, 13th – 15th March, in Bangkok, Thailand. VIV Asia is a biennial international trade show and conference event with over 1,250 exhibitors from the animal production industry, held over a 30,000 m2 space.
6th Global Feed and Food Congress, 11th – 13th March 2019
Trouw Nutrition was the exclusive event partner of the 6th Global Feed and Food Congress (GFFC), held from 11th – 13th March 2019. The event was organized by the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) with the Thai Feed Mill Association as a supporting partner and technical support provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Reinder Sijtsma, Regulatory Affairs, moderated the Nutritional Innovation plenary session during which Prof. Leo den Hartog, Nutreco R&D Director, spoke on “Innovation in Animal nutrition to promote animal health”. Other speakers in the session included Dr. Haileyesus Getahun, Director of Interagency Coordination on Antimicrobial Resistance, World Health Organization (WHO) and Dr. Johanna Fink-Gremmels, Professor in Veterinary Pharmacology, Utrecht University.
Dr. Rob Kouremans, CEO Nutreco, was on the Global Leaders Panel together with Dr. Mark Lyons, President & CEO, Alltech, and Joe Stone, Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer, Cargill and Dr. Berhe Tekola, Director, Animal Production and Health Division, FAO, who deliberated on the theme of GFFC, “The future of feed and food; Are we ready?”. The GFFC was attended by over 350 high-level global delegates and featured exceptional speakers providing insights and expertise on topics ranging from sustainability, digital innovation, feed and food safety and animal health and nutrition.
The GFFC was followed by the 12th International Feed Regulators (IFRM) meeting.

High-Tech Animal Health & Nutrition Conference, 14th Mar 2019
Trouw Nutrition was invited to participate at the High-tech animal health and nutrition conference. The session was chaired by Ge’Backus, Director at Connecting Agri and Food. András Pálla, Regional Technical Manager, presented “Trouw Nutrition’s NutriOpt precision feeding system”. Other talks included topics on Smart barn real-time climate monitoring, chick quality & vaccination and app-based diagnostics.
Pig Health 2019, 15th Mar 2019
A one day seminar featuring 6 speakers on pig health was held in conjunction with VIV Asia. The program kicked off with Gustavo Sa Ribeiro, Regional Technical Manager, speaking about sow management from weaning to farrowing, followed by other speakers on topics such as piglet and swine health management, meat quality and responsible use of antibiotics.
FAVA-VIV Asia Seminar, 14th Mar 2019
Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) conducted a seminar during VIV Asia with the theme of “Antimicrobial resistance (AMR): From Science to Policy”. The seminar was supported by the USAID project (OSRO/RAS/502: Addressing antimicrobial usage in Asia’s livestock, aquaculture and crop production systems), which looks to understanding and finding ways to effect action and catalyze change in mitigating AMR. Dr. Ooi Ei Lin, Technical Director, was invited by the FAO Regional Office for Asia-Pacific (FAO RAP) to be on a panel discussion entitled “Private sector perspectives on AMR mitigation. The panel included Dr. Achariya Sailasuta, Thai Veterinary medical Association (TVMA) & FAVA, Dr. Apisit Kittawornrat, Assistant Vice-President, CPF, Dr. Shabbir Simjee, Global Regulatory & Technical Advisor, Elanco. This initiative indicates the recognition of the need to involve multisectoral stakeholders, such as the private sector and other civil societies, in developing effective global action to address AMR. The insights gathered from this seminar will be used to develop the Concept Note for future FAO AMR-related initiatives.
